Yields: 1 drink
Prep time: 3-5 minutes
Brew time: 25-30 seconds (for espresso)
Ingredients & Equipment:
Espresso Machine: With a steam wand
Espresso Beans: Freshly roasted is best
Coffee Grinder: A burr grinder for a fine espresso grind
White Chocolate Sauce or Powder: Your favorite brand
Milk: Whole milk is recommended
Small Pitcher: For steaming milk
Coffee Mug
Key Parameters:
Espresso Shot: A double shot (2 oz) of espresso is ideal to ensure the coffee flavor isn't completely overpowered by the sweet white chocolate.
White Chocolate: Start with 1 to 2 tablespoons of white chocolate sauce or 1 tablespoon of white chocolate powder. You can adjust this to your desired sweetness.
Steamed Milk: Aim for a velvety, creamy texture with a small layer of foam on top. The ideal temperature is between 140°F and 150°F (60°C to 65°C).
Ratio: A common ratio for a white mocha is one part espresso, one part white chocolate, and two parts steamed milk.
Instructions:
Add White Chocolate to Your Mug: Measure your white chocolate sauce or powder and add it to the bottom of your coffee mug.
Pull Your Espresso Shot: Grind your espresso beans and pull a fresh double shot.
Mix Espresso and White Chocolate: Pour the hot espresso shot directly over the white chocolate in your mug. Stir well until the white chocolate is completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
Steam the Milk: Fill your steaming pitcher with cold milk. Purge the steam wand to release any water. Submerge the tip just below the surface and create a whirlpool motion, allowing the milk to expand slightly. Then, submerge the wand deeper to heat the milk to the desired temperature. Tap the pitcher to pop any large bubbles, then swirl to make the milk glossy and smooth.
Combine and Serve: Pour the steamed milk directly into your mug, mixing it with the espresso and white chocolate. You can top it with a small amount of milk foam or a drizzle of extra white chocolate sauce if you like.
Enjoy: Serve immediately and enjoy the perfect blend of coffee and sweet white chocolate.
Tips for Success:
Melting White Chocolate: If you're using white chocolate chips or pieces, you can melt them with the hot espresso for a rich and authentic taste.
Customize It: Feel free to experiment with different types of chocolate, from dark to white, to find your perfect flavor.
Don't Forget to Stir: Ensure the chocolate is fully mixed into the espresso before adding the milk to avoid a chalky taste at the bottom of your cup.
